DISD District 5 Board Trustee Dr. Lew Blackburn will host a Community Informational Meeting for parents and the community. Key topics of discussion will include “Where’s the Money in DISD” and “The April TAKS Test…Will Your Child Graduate in June.” Dr. Blackburn along with other representatives will be present to explain the DISD budget and how taxpayer’s dollars are being spent. Students will be taking the TAKS Test during the month of April and many parents need a better understanding of the test and how it affects the schools, students and our community.

Other elected officials that have been invited to participate include: State Senator Royce West who serves as a member of the Senate’s Committee on Education, Finance, Health and Human Services and Higher Education and recently appointed to the Select Committee on Public School Finance Weight, Allotment and Adjustment; and State Representative Barbara Mallory-Caraway who serves on the House Committee’s on Urban Affairs and Public Safety.

Parents and the community are encouraged to attend this very important informational meeting.
