Last week Bill White braved the elements and headed to Dallas to put in work on his gubernatorial campaign.  While in town, White received the endorsement of Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins.  He also took time to speak with Dallas South News regarding his campaign.

The interview took place in a portion of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson’s Office that serves as White’s Dallas headquarters.  When he last spoke to DSN White was a candidate for U.S. Senate, so I asked him what has changed since then.

“I received 8,000 emails from Texans who said that we need a choice ,” White said referring to the governor’s race. He said he shares their view and wanted to end the political division in the state.  “Most Texans want good jobs, safe neighborhoods, and the skills and education to get those good jobs,” said White. Affordable housing was another issue that the former Houston mayor said he would address if Texans were to send him to Austin.

White said that if he were elected governor he would quickly go into the schools, including community colleges, and that he would talk to educators and parents.  He said that more teachers need to teach more students where they are and that more Texans should pursue higher educations.

White acknowledged that his Democratic opponent Farouk Shami has significant business experience, but was quick to point out the difference between the two candidates.  He said he’s fought for civil rights and clean energy for decades.  “I have a track record in public service,” said White, “I’ve walked the walk.”

Early voting begins Tuesday for the Democratic Primary which will be held on March 2nd.

  1. Looking forward to voting for a candidate who is truly about education and families instead of big business, lobbyists and the same ol’ same ol’. I appreciate having a true choice this year when making my decision at the polls.

Mayor White will hopefully be a new start for Texans if we decide our votes count and can make a difference. If the metropolitan areas like Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio etc., go Democratic then maybe, maybe there’s a chance for a regime change. And I do mean a regime change. Because right now there is a regime in charge in Austin that won’t be dislodged unless people vote it out.
