November 14, 2009; Austin, TX. – Officials from The National Council of Negro Women
presented State Representative Barbara Mallory Caraway with the Civic and Social
Service Award during a prayer breakfast at the Renaissance Hotel in Dallas.

“I am pleased that the National Council of Negro Women deemed my public service
worthy of recognition. I am deeply honored”, Representative Mallory Caraway said.
Founded in 1935, the mission of the NCNW is to lead, develop, and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities. NCNW fulfills this purpose through research, advocacy, and national and community-based services andprograms on issues of health, education, and economic empowerment in the United States and Africa.

Representative Mallory Caraway has been a dedicated public servant in the Texas House of Representatives from District 110 since her election in November of 2006. She also served as a member of the Dallas City Council from 1993-2001.

Representative Mallory Caraway serves on the Public Safety Committee and the Urban
Affairs Committee. The issues that Representative Mallory Caraway has championed for
her constituents and the citizens of Texas include lower energy costs and increased
educational standards for students.
