Just Added to MLK Celebration: 11 AM – MONDAY, JANUARY 19

Just added… Motown National Gospel Recording Artist Brian Courtney Wilson

The African American Pastors Coalition (AAPC) said today that Motown National Gospel Recording Artist has just been added to the annual MLK Worship event focused on Saving our Sons.  Nearly 2000 members and friends of the AAPC organization are expected to attend the Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration set for 11 a.m. Monday, January 19 at Concord Church, 6808 Pastor Bailey Dr. in Dallas.  The annual celebration will mark the 20th year of the Organizations start and will feature internationally renowned preacher and author Rev. Jeffrey Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana as its keynote speaker.  Rev. Johnson is Senior Pastor of Eastern Star Church and is known for his passion and commitment to empowering young boys and men of color and single parents.

This year’s theme, “Save Our Sons” will allow the largest Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Color in North Texas to re-commit ourselves to the business of mentoring and coaching young men.

“This is a day on, not a day off, said Bryan L. Carter, Senior Pastor of the Concord Church and President of the AAPC.  We have linked up with several mentoring organizations throughout North Texas and we are connecting them with willing servants, from the Pastor to the lay persons who will commit to giving up their time to help change our community,” he said.

Organizers say that the day will be used to inspire, educate, inform and move our organizations to action.

“Our mission and goal since our inception is timeless, in that as an organization we continue to seek ways to network with our more than 90 Churches representing nearly 200K members to create an ongoing atmosphere to effect change in our community and in the lives of our congregations and families, explained Carter.

While the MLK Celebration is an annual highlight for AAPC, the organization has a significant influence and presence in issues that impact the City and the State of Texas.  Its leaders can be found in the quest to improve relations between the Dallas ISD and the community, raising issues of financial equity in lending practices through its ongoing partnership with Dallas Telco Federal Credit Union.  The organization provides proactive leadership in the awareness of affordable healthcare, voter mobilization and elected official accountability.

The annual MLK Celebration hosted by AAPC has hosted some of the most prolific and prophetic voices over its history, including the late Dr. E.K. Baily, Dr. Floyd H. Flake, Bishop, Dr. Claudette Copeland, Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II, Rev. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Dr. Zan Wesley Holmes and so many other legendary theologians and scholars.  All with one purpose – to allow us to Remember, Celebrate and Act.
