Ever since 2004, when Facebook was introduced, social media has become a growing  part of business, technology and society. According to a Business Insider study social media is now the top internet activity, and more than 60 percent of that activity is on mobile devices. Americans are spending an average of 37 minutes daily on social media, and more than half of them are women.

“More women also use the top social media sites and they dominate the visual-type social websites, which are the fastest growing social networks today,” stated the financesonline.com article.

Thirty-three percent of U.S. women access Pinterest, whereas men it’s only 8 percent.  Forty-six percent of women use their smartphones to check their social account versus 43 percent for men. Likewise, 32 percent of women use a tablet versus 20 percent of men for the same reason.

Moreover, women use social media sites in more ways than men. They interact with brands more often and for a wider range of reasons and they consume and share news more frequently than men, who are likely stuck in news and sports websites.
