Joyce Foreman, the longtime Dallas community activist endorsed by the Texas Organizing Project (TOP), today won the District 6 seat on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, despite being outspent 6 to 1.

“Experts looking at this race thought Joyce didn’t have a chance since she was massively outspent, but signs don’t vote, people do. What the experts didn’t consider was all the community support behind her,” said Suzette Wiseman, a TOP community leader and DISD parent. “TOP was out in the community every day knocking on doors, making phone calls, and having real one-on-one talks with voters. Our people made the difference.”

TOP members have been hard at work for years fighting to improve Dallas ISD through grassroots organizing.
“We phone banked, block-walked, and gave rides to the polls,” said Ed Turner, Texas Organizing Project Dallas schools campaign organizer. “Our members were driven to fight for Joyce because we need a strong voice on the board who will fight to improve student performance and oppose poorly thought-out proposals like Home Rule Charter.”
TOP will run an aggressive and comprehensive Get Out the Vote (GOTV) program throughout Dallas County for November’s general election.
