Alan Lowe, the director of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum was presented Thursday, with a Special Public Service Award by the Dallas-Fort Worth Federal Executive Board.

Lowe was selected by a committee of federal leaders for his exemplary service while serving as the director of the new George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

“The recipient was chosen for a significant accomplishment or act of service that has a positive impact on the citizens we serve and shines a positive light on public servants,” said Gladean Butler, the FEB executive director.

One of the deciding factors was how the executive committee felt he had exceeded expectations as the director of the Library and Museum.

“We met (at the facility) in January of this year to see the full implementation of the project,” she said. “It was clear that Alan had a special passion for this assignment…the depth of his knowledge was evident…this is the sign of something special in my opinion.”

Lowe – a native of Bourbon, Kentucky – is proud of even being considered for this award, but he insists that it is the people he directs that makes the Library and Museum a success.

“While I am humbled by this recognition, I fully understand that the Library and Museum would not be a success without our dedicated staff giving everything they have,” he said.

Adding, “everyday I am honored to work with a wonderful group of truly dedicated public servants. This award is being presented to me, but I accept it graciously on behalf of our entire staff.”

The Public Service Award, in addition to several more that will be handed out at the ceremony, is part of the FEB’s mission to serve as an advocate for the Federal workforce, and Gladean feels that Lowe was the perfect choice.

“Our citizens need and want an effective and efficient government,” she said. “By showcasing Alan’s accomplishments, we demonstrate the good work done by federal workers.”
