The release of “And He Also Played Football,” a short biography of Curtis McClinton, this summer has produced a flurry of activity. Authors Riley Horne, and Dr. Marguerite M. McClinton are proud of the attention the book is receiving.

Ms. McClinton more so… the book is a tribute to her dad.

“Many stories of the former players focus on their career stats, but not as men with families and careers. I wanted to provide a glimpse of the story of my hero off the field. This nonfiction story that allows you to get to know the life of a pro player,” stated McClinton.

“And He Also Played Football: A Story Based on the Life of Curtis McClinton Jr. through the Eyes of a Daughter” tells the story of Curtis McClinton that only a few know about. Growing up in Wichita, Kan., he worked in the family grocery store, learning at an early age about being a businessman and merchant. Though he participated in many sports, the gridiron fueled his competitive spirit and paved the way for his future. Known as an All-American running back at Kansas University in 1961 and for his prestigious career for the Kansas City Chiefs. Few know of his accolades off the football field, however.

Curtis McClinton Jr. along with his daughter Marguerite McClinton will be signing books and sharing excerpts at SMU Barnes and Noble in Dallas during the SMU Mustangs home game.

The book details Curtis McClinton’s sports career, his efforts to revitalize Kansas City and to ensure the safety of its streets during the riots of the late 1960s, his joint effort with Jim Brown to serve as the National President of the Black Economic Union, his service at the Department of Commerce and as Deputy Mayor of Washington, DC, to his volunteering for the United States Army and was honorably discharged, and many other aspects of his life.

Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, the book is available through bookstores nationwide, from the publisher at www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore, or by visiting barnesandnoble.com or amazon.com.

Horne is a 16-year-old sophomore, an honors student, and is nearly fluent in Japanese. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of comics, young adult fiction, and most literature in general. In addition to the McClinton biography, she has finished a wryly funny young adult fantasy novel. She also has two other novels nearing completion, a sequel to the first book and a new one.
