  • Sharebar

Whether you’ve just had a baby or are finally getting around to that New Year’s Resolution of living healthier, you have a number of options to help you on your way. There’s the usual exercise and dieting, of course, and there’s also food. While there are some foods you certainly have to let go, there are other items that can assist you on your journey to your dream weight and body style. Here are six foods that help you get your body back in shape.

1. Eggs

The more muscle you have on your body, the more calories you burn away; the more protein you eat, the better you can develop muscles; and eggs are the best source of proteins. Eggs provide a perfect mix of nutrients for your body; including one for breakfast will make you feel fuller for the rest of the day, eliminating the craving for snacks until lunchtime, and possibly saving you up to 400 calories per day.

2. Apples

An apple a day does more than simply keep the doctor away; they also help you lose weight. Apples overwhelmingly consist of water and a touch of fiber (which slows down digestion), so eating one makes you feel full and staves off the urge to indulge your sweet tooth to fill your stomach. Eating two or three apples a day will help against overindulging in real meals when it comes to lunch or dinner.

3. Vegetables

There’s a good reason kids are always told to eat their greens. Veggies are low in calories, rich with nutrients, and can even help control our cravings for unhealthy food. Spinach, broccoli and salads can bring down cholesterol levels and wean our bodies off the taste of processed foods. Vegetables do a better job of satisfying your hunger and keeping you healthy than almost any other kind of food.

4. Yogurt

Foods rich in calcium help in the breakdown of fat in the body, and that’s where yogurt comes in. Unless most other forms of dairy food, yogurt is low in fat and delivers a double-punch of calcium and protein, burning fat and strengthening your bones to assist in the exercise element of getting back into shape.

5. Salmon

Unlike the other foods on this list, salmon has fat – the essential omega-3 fatty acids, the healthy kind of fat that boost your metabolism to burn off the unhealthy kind of fat. If you’re looking for tight abs, then salmon, with its myriad methods of preparation, is the way to go. A consistent salmon and salad combination could see you lose pounds and improve your body’s shape in a matter of weeks.

6. Soybeans

Soy can be consumed in almost any form and still give you a dose of nutrients, such as fiber, protein and antioxidants. A compound in soy sends a message to your brain that your body is full and doesn’t need to eat anymore, keeping you clear of the temptation to eat beyond what is necessary.
