African-Americans have contributed to our American society in every walk of life. One purpose of Black History Month is to honor those individuals who have sacrificed of themselves to serve and uplift others. Five women of the Dallas Metroplex were recently selected by ROPP for Girls, Inc. as recipients of the 2013 “Women of Wisdom Awards.” These women will be recognized and honored for their selfless contributions to others by living their lives as servant leaders. Their dedication and determination to serve and improve the lives of others not only helped to strengthen individuals, but also strengthened and enhanced their communities.

The five Honorees of ROPP for Girls’ 2013 Women of Wisdom Awards are: Dr. Sheila M. Bailey, Marie Compton, Nona Fisher, Cynthia Nunn and Emma Rodgers. The celebration will take place at Concord Church on Saturday, February 23rd at 7:00 p.m. with a moving production entitled, “Mirror, Mirror.” The production will look at women in African American history through the eyes of 21st century girls.

The event also helps support the fifth bi-annual educational and mission trip to Ghana, West Africa for the junior and senior ROPP girls. The highlight of the trip will be an authentic rites of passage ceremony in a village on the coast of Guinea for the girls.

ROPP for Girls, Inc. is a seven year, Bible-based program of experiences and discoveries for girls beginning in the sixth grade continuing through twelfth grade. The classes enhance their growth and development by affirming the positive aspects of passing from childhood into womanhood.
