Non-profit fundraiser to culminate on State Senator Royce West’s office lawn Thursday morning

by Keith Hobbs

Flocks of flamingos are popping up all over DFW-area lawns, and it’s all thanks to the Heart of a Warrior Charitable Foundationfundraiser. About 100 of our Las Vegas pink friends will migrate to the lawn of State Senator Royce West’s office Thursday, November 15, as part of Saturday evening’s pre-event activities.

These pretty pink birds have shown up on the stoops of 34 area-homes thus far, raising close to $5,000 for the foundation. When these birds appear, Heart of a Warrior is asking homeowners to make a donation of $100 which migrates the herd to a location of their choice. Tomorrow, the flamingos will make their debut on the lawn of State Senator Royce West, the Honorary Chair for the Have a Heart, Roll the Dice fundraiser.

Senator Royce West is interviewed after his law office was flocked. The Senator, Gail Warrior and the pretty pink birds are raising funds for the Heart of a Warrior Foundation, which provides summer education to underserved children in Dallas.

“As a tireless advocate for education in Dallas, Senator West exemplifies what it means to have a heart of a warrior,” said Gail Warrior, HOAW founder and chairwoman and CEO of Warrior Group. ““I hope the flamingos will remind the community of our commitment to our children and their education.”

“Have a Heart, Roll the Dice” is benefiting children throughout Dallas who are served by HOAW. From 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. the Hotel Palomar in Dallas will serve as the city’s finest casino for a night of gaming, food, music and more in support of HOAW. The event will feature popular casino games, live music, cash bar, food stations with fare from chef Graham Dodds of the Palomar’s Central 214 restaurant, a raffle, an auction and performance painters creating works of art that will be auctioned at the end of the evening.

HOAW serves underserved children in South Dallas, Hamilton Park in North Dallas, and the Frazier Courts community of East Dallas through its Young Warriors Summer Learning Program. The course is designed to eliminate the tremendous learning gap often seen in lower-income students caused by the lack of high-quality activities and educational studies during the summertime. This past summer, more than 500 children were served at three locations through the course of the eight-week program. The curriculum, including English and math as well as life skills and enriching field trip experiences, gave the attending children a 77 percent boost in learning, preparing them for success in the next school term.

Tickets to Have a Heart, Roll the Dice are $100 and include vouchers for casino chips. To RSVP for the event or for more information and sponsorships available, contact Susan Zidlicky at events@heartofawarriorfoundation.org or 972-228-7505. Tickets may also be purchased directly from the Foundation website atwww.heartofawarriorfoundation.org/events/rollthedicenight. Hotel Palomar is located at 5300 E. Mockingbird Lane at North Central Expressway in Dallas.
