You Can Sleep Better Tonight Without Buying a New Mattress or Introducing Sleep Aids to Your Body

  • Sharebar

We have all had nights where we toss and turn until early in the morning. The following day is
always difficult to get through; you feel like you’re trudging through a fog. Lose sleep like that
for a few nights in a row and you’re in trouble. Everything’s becomes copy of a copy of a copy,
as author Chuck Palahniuk put it. If you have insomnia or trouble getting to sleep and staying
asleep, there are many potential solutions out there for you that are inexpensive and easy to try.

The Importance of a Good Night’s Rest

It’s surprising how much of a difference a good night’s sleep can make. Sleep deprivation can
have many short and long term effects on nearly every part of your body. Without enough
sleep, you can begin to suffer from weight gain, an inability to focus, headaches, become more
prone to illness, and an increased stress on nearly every part of your body, both physically and
mentally.

Chronic sleep deprivation can slowly create very damaging effects to the brain as well. You’ll
notice that in all of Shakespeare’s plays where a character descends into madness, it is almost
always mentioned that they have trouble sleeping or have stopped sleeping altogether. It’s hard
for people who don’t suffer from insomnia or chronic sleep deprivation to understand just how
detrimental sleeping conditions can be to someone’s overall health.

Finding a Solution

It isn’t always easy to recognize what is causing restlessness. Trouble sleeping can be an
indication of an increase in stress levels, poor diet or a chemical imbalance in the body, or
physical discomfort, among many other causes. Because of this, it’s impossible to find one
solution that works for everyone. It takes an open mind and the time and effort to try different
things until your find the solution that works for you.

Many sleep experts advise that you should use your bedroom strictly for sleeping and nothing
else, especially if you are having trouble sleeping. If you are used to doing activities in your
bedroom other than sleeping, such as working or watching TV, it can be difficult for your brain
to distinguish between when it is time to be active and when it is time to rest. Make it clear to
yourself that when you are in your bedroom, you’re there to sleep and nothing else.

There are also a lot of physical changes you can try, some being more expensive than others.
Purchasing a memory foam mattress topper can be a solution that is worth trying. The
added physical comfort, possibly in addition to other healthy lifestyle changes like cutting down
on caffeine and stress, could be exactly what you need, and without much commitment on your
part. You don’t want to invest in a new mattress and find that it doesn’t give you the results you
need. Memory foam toppers, however, are inexpensive and have helped to alleviate conditions
in addition to sleeplessness including:

  • Lower back pain
  • Poor circulation and swelling in the legs
  • Joint pain or arthritis
  • Heartburn
  • And more.

Your health is extremely dependent on getting a good night’s sleep. If you often stay up tossing
and turning, but are maybe apprehensive about taking sleep aids, consider some physical and
habitual changes to combat your restlessness. It may take a combination of small changes to
get the result you need, but in time you are sure to find a solution that works for you.
