Over 500 people packed the Hilton Anatole Hotel here in Dallas for an evening of tributes to community leaders, dinner and entertainment at the 2012 Urban League Annual Gala.
The evening began with a VIP reception followed by dinner and award presentations to Media Expert Jim Washington, Public Relations Executive Stan Levenson, Mega Community Activist Edna Pemberton and Derek McCoy, representing the world’s largest beverage company, Coca Cola Refreshments. “Our honorees continue to set high standards not only through their accomplishments but also through their volunteerism, financial contributions and community service,” said Dr. Beverly Mitchell-Brooks, Urban League President and CEO.
Washington received the Whitney M. Young, Jr. award for his long-time support of the Urban League movement and its mission; Levenson received the President’s Award for his advocacy and leadership throughout the Dallas Community; Pemberton was awarded the Community of Spirit for her total dedication to lifting up minority communities throughout Dallas County and Coca Cola Refreshments received the Buddy J. Minyard Award for their outstanding corporate partnership and support of the Urban League.
Special guests included Charles O. Glenn, Marketing Consultant who created and successfully managed innovative global marketing campaigns for literally hundreds of movies and guided six of them — The Godfather, The Godfather II, Amadeus,Platoon, The Silence of the Lambs and Dances With Wolves to 33 Academy Awards, including Oscars for Best Picture and Ken Topolsky – Producer of the popular TV Show, Dallas.
The highlight of the evening was a concert by R&B/Jazz Violinist Michael Ward. The local group, VINJAC provided dinner music.
Guests also enjoyed a raffle and silent auction which featured the extraordinary artwork of Frank Frazier, Janice Thacker and Jamaal Stafford, vacation and sports packages.
