Mayor Rawlings announces Shawn Williams to join city hall staff

Today, Mayor Mike Rawlings announced Shawn Williams, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Dallas South News-hyperlocal news website, will be joining his team at city hall to manage the GrowSouth initiative and digital media for the office of the mayor. In addition, he will also assist with the mayor’s business growth opportunities.

“Shawn comes with a wealth of knowledge of Southern Dallas as well as all over Dallas having written about it for so many years,” said Mayor Rawlings. “In addition to leading the GrowSouth initiative, he will use his award-winning skills to develop and implement strategies for digital media.”

In 2010, Shawn received the Austin American-Statesman’s Texas Social Media Awards which recognized the Top 25 social media users in the state.  He has also been a guest columnist for the Dallas Morning News and has written several articles for D Magazine.

In addition to his publishing and reporting, he served as a pharmaceuticals representative for over 8 years as well as a Sales Specialist for IBM.

Shawn is a graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Management). He and his wife, Tamela, are members of Friendship-West Baptist Church along with their two children Isaiah and Maliyah.  His first day at city hall will be Monday, June 4.
