The Methodist Charlton Medical Center Auxiliary will host an annual high school art competition, exhibition, and reception on Thursday, May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. The goal of this recognition program is to identify, honor, and encourage artistic talent in community high school students.
Area high school students from Lancaster, Duncanville, DeSoto, and Cedar Hill will participate. Eligible art will include paintings and drawings in mediums such as acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastels, colored pencils, charcoals, inks and markers.
Judges for the competition will be Methodist Charlton auxiliary member Virginia Skeen; Jorge Saldivar, MD an independently practicing physician on the medical staff at Methodist Charlton; and art theory teacher Leslie Shimonura. Art will be judged on originality, creativity, demonstration of artistic skill, and overall presentation. Cash prizes will be awarded by the judges for first, second, and third places as follows:
· First place – $100
· Second place – $75
· Third place – $50
Additional honorable mention non-monetary prizes may also be awarded. All contest participants will receive a certificate of appreciation for their work as community artists.
