Dallas Police Will Honor First Female Officer of the Year

Once again, Success North Dallas will sponsor the 2011 Dallas Police Department Officer of the Year ceremony on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 7:00 AM. The ceremony will be held at Prestonwood Country Club, located at 15909 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas.

This year’s recipient is Detective Arleen Martinez, #4972, the first female to be selected for this award.

Once again, Success North Dallas will sponsor the 2011 Dallas Police Department Officer of the Yearceremony on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 7:00 AM. The ceremony will be held at Prestonwood Country Club, located at 15909 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas.

This year’s recipient is Detective Arleen Martinez, #4972, the first female to be selected for this award.  Detective Martinez joined the Dallas Police Department in 1984.  She was first assigned to the Southeast Division as a patrol officer.  Detective Martinez received several commendations, indicating her enthusiasm for the job and her eagerness to protect the citizens of Dallas.

In 1986, Detective Martinez was drafted to the Communications Division where she received several commendations as a Police dispatcher.  She would later become the first female K-9 officer on the Department in 1988.  Detective Martinez and her canine partner recovered numerous illegal drugs and assisted in the arrest of numerous drug traffickers.

Detective Martinez was selected for a duty assignment in the Child Abuse Unit in 1993.  Within the first few months, she was commended for her ability to be a fast learner and a self starter.  She was deemed highly professional, with an ability to relate to children in a caring manner.

These are just a few accolades to describe Detective Martinez and the commitment she has to this department and the citizens of Dallas.  The media is welcomed to come out and join us as we recognize the achievements of this extraordinary officer.
