Dallas South News Wire (Clayton Campaign)

Dallas attorney Taj Clayton today announced that his congressional campaign raised $216,253.74 in the last 10 weeks of 2011.

“We’re off to a very strong start, and this is only the beginning. We are gaining momentum as people get to know me and see what I’m about. We’ve exceeded our expectations because people are ready for new results and new leadership. We’re tired of seeing South Dallas County deal with the same problems year after year. The time for change is here,” said Clayton.

Renee Hartley, Clayton’s campaign manager, said the good fundraising start occurred even without the support of political action committees and loans from the candidate. “By raising all the campaign’s money from individuals, Clayton is answering an important question about viability,” said Hartley.

“I think Taj Clayton’s fundraising totals show that there are a lot of people not willing to wait for the torch to be extinguished before it’s passed to a new generation of leaders,” said Hartley. “We need some fresh blood and new ideas, and a lot of people are excited about what Taj has to offer South Dallas County. He’s a special leader.”

I’m so impressed by Mr. Clayton and I’m happy that he is running. We need some fresh air!

  • The Truth

All the money he raised is from people who dont live in the District. He’s bought by the white man in North Dallas and lawyers across the country. Sorry, Taj, but out-of-towners cant vote.

  • Hope Springs

Bought by the white man? Wow. And all the money EBJ raised is from Political Action Committees and Washington DC special interests… people who not only don’t live in the District, but even CARE about the District.

  • Nospam

They said the same thing about President Obama. Why is it that when a Black man gets a good education and is successful he’s somehow “bought” by the “white man?” We, as a people, need to stop tearing our Black brothers down. The young man is doing this thing. Be proud of him. If he was your son or brother, you’d be singing a different tune. Black man sags his jeans, he’s a no good thug. Black man goes to school and succeeds, he’s being “white.” Can’t win for losing. We need to stop this self hatred. Date hate, elevate!

    Don’t hate, elevate!

I met Taj over the holiday shopping season at a store with his kids and I am looking forward to hearing more about his ideas for our community. This is a great start for a new comer and makes me have hope for our younger generation. But I still I want hear candidates side by side before making a decision. Always independent. Keep up the good work Taj and get your message out you never know who is listening.

  • Kwame Jackson

I doubt is EBJ will debate him.

What you need to consider is “the truth”. There are folks all across the nation who are clambering for true leadership on Capitol Hill. While Taj goes to Washington representing the interest of those of you in South Dallas County, the legislation he will see will have an effect on people all across the country — most of that legislation, given the economy, will have an even greater effect on the poor and middle class.

So as someone who went to college with Taj, who is his fraternity brother, who lives outside TX, but knows the impact Taj will have on the residents of South Dallas, I am proud to support him in any way I can.

Taj will be good for Dallas and I hope you give him a chance to prove that to you.

  • Bill Daniels

I am glad that people support the young guy, but I just dont think he’s gonna be able to pull it all together.

Specifically what type of jobs and or employers will he alone attract to the area south of I30? If he has a plan or information, I think it is selfish to keep secret until he is elected.
