Government budgets are a tricky thing to understand. Obviously they can’t please everyone, but at times, we can’t help to wonder about the allocation of funding. Public Administration presents a shocking infographic on government spending — stating that the amount of dollars spent on an inmate is more than a student’s tuition at Princeton.

It’s surprising to see such alarming statistics. It is safe to say investing in higher education brings a higher return on investment (ROI), than what is spent on prison inmates. So why is so much of it going to these prisons? This infographic illustrates the stats and facts behind what seems to be yet another road block in higher education.

    The saddest thing is that people learn more about being criminals from a year in prison than students learn about being productive members of society after a year in college.
