Dallas South News Wire (City of Dallas)

Visitors to Texas Discovery Gardens and the State Fair of Texas are about to enjoy a month of environmental seeing, doing and learning. First is the Dallas Green Festival celebration on Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Texas Discovery Gardens in Fair Park.

Visitors may walk the gardens, visit vendors showcasing eco-friendly products and services, and try some of the latest culinary creations. Children can make bird feeders and terrariums. Participants can also enjoy live music and see lifestyle demonstrations to learn about living a greener and healthier life.

Attendees can participate in classes and talk to vendors about energy efficiency and conservation; stormwater and waterway protection; bee and chicken keeping; water conservation; rainwater harvest and use; organic gardening; alternative transportation; electronic recycling; bicycle touring and safety; sustainability; and recycling and composting.

Then, Sept. 30 through Oct. 23 at the 2011 State Fair of Texas, the Green Festival becomes the first-ever Texas Discovery Gardens Green Exhibit, on display from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Many of the vendors from the Green Festival will be on hand to provide information to fairgoers and help spread the sustainability message.

Admission to the Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium will be reduced for both events to $3.
