Dallas South News Wire (Southern Bible Institute)

Southern Bible Institute in Dallas will offer two of its most popular courses in Spanish for the first time starting in the fall semester of 2011.   Students can start enrolling now for the fall semester, which includes the two Spanish courses, titled Metodos de Estudio Biblicos (Bible Study Methods) and Antiguo Testamento 1 (Old Testament Survey).  Fall classes start August 22, 2011 at the SBI campus, which is located at 7200 S. Hampton Road in Dallas, Texas.

The concept for the Spanish classes is two-fold.  Southern Bible Institute wants to take down the barriers that are preventing Spanish-speaking people from studying the bible at their Institute.  SBI also wants to use the course as an opportunity to help them learn to speak English.  “Students will attend each class three hours a week.

The first hour and a half session will be done in Spanish.  The second weekly session will be done in English and students will use the same course study to learn grammar and composition,” explained SBI teacher Juan Alejo.  Alejo developed the concept and will be teaching the courses in the fall.  “You can come to SBI when your first language is Spanish and not only learn the Bible, but you will learn English as a second language.”

“Southern Bible’s mission has always been able to break down barriers for those who did not have access to bible study at an affordable Institute,” said Dr. Martin Hawkins, SBI President.  SBI was founded 84 years ago during segregated times when African-Americans were not allowed to attend other bible colleges in the Dallas area.  Southern Bible provides graduating students with degrees, diplomas and certificates in Biblical Studies and Biblical Theological Studies.  Graduates have gone on to be pastors, missionaries, church planters, church leaders and ministry leaders.

Southern Bible Institute’s courses are designed to emphasize the truth of scripture, the soundness of doctrines and theologies as well as the practical application of these truths in everyday life and ministry.  The faculty is comprised of men and women who have been trained at some of the most prestigious seminaries and bible colleges throughout the country.  Ministry specific courses are also available in areas such as expository preaching, worship leadership and biblical counseling.

Registration is open for the fall semester.  Applications are available online in both English and Spanish.  For more information visit or call 972-224-5481.
