Dallas South News Wire (United Way)

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD) is hosting its first Super Saturday tax preparation event, kicking off the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! (EKS) citywide free tax preparation program, designed to put money back into the pockets of hard-working North Texas families.  Sponsored by Alliance Data, Super Saturday will offer free tax preparation services to low-income families while providing family-friendly activities including bounce houses, children’s face painting, and free health screenings.

Trained United Way volunteers will work with families to prepare their taxes and answer tax-related questions, ensuring clients receive the Earned Income Tax Credit when eligible.  Children will enjoy a mobile library and crafts while family members are offered mammography, blood pressure and prostate cancer screenings as part of the program’s outreach efforts.
In 2010, Earn It! Keep It! Save It! helped more than 5,500 people save more than $10 million, an average of $1,500 per family.

For the 2011 tax season, United Way expects to help more than 10,000 families save more than $15 million.  From now through April, Earn It! Keep It! Save It! volunteers will offer free tax help at 10 sites across Dallas.
