Crime prevention information will be part of the offerings at the National Night Out community crime fighting event set for Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, 1441 N. Beckley, in Dallas. The event will also feature free refreshments, prostate cancer screenings, and giveaways from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Hitt Auditorium.

Methodist Dallas Medical Center will invite neighbors in on Tuesday, Oct. 5, for the annual National Night Out event at the hospital. The annual national event encourages partnerships between the community and local police to tackle issues concerning crime and drug prevention. Though traditionally held in summer nationwide, many communities in Texas moved to a fall celebration last year for cooler temperatures. The Methodist Health System Police Department will host the free event at the hospital, 1441 N. Beckley, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Hitt Auditorium, also moving this year to a lunch time mid-day event as a change of pace from previous evening festivities.

Community members are invited to come out and enjoy activities for the entire family, including: free food and refreshments, giveaway prizes, safety and crime prevention information, and lively music by an area DJ.

Methodist made history in 2003 when it became the first medical campus police department in the nation to host a National Night Out event and subsequently received the “Rookie of the Year” award from the National Association of Town Watch.  Methodist continues to be the only medical campus police department to host a National Night Out event and has since received several National Night Out “All Star” awards for outstanding participation and has been featured on the National Night Out State Committee’s video highlighting the best National Night Out events across the state with high community involvement.

The Hitt auditorium is located in the Service Building at the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Bishop Avenue.  Free parking is available in the Service Building surface parking lot. For additional information concerning the event, contact Officer Teresa Vela at 214-947-8822.
