The AHA recommends that we get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise or anything that makes you move your body and burncalories. This includes walking, jogging, swimming or biking which can all be tracked on this Android app I’ve been using the last couple of weeks.
According to the American Heart Association, among people age 18 and older, the following engage in regular leisure-time Physical Activity.
⎯ For non-Hispanic whites only, 33.9 percent
⎯ For non-Hispanic blacks only, 22.9 percent
⎯ For Hispanics or Latinos, 23.8 percent
A new Droid app from WorkSmart Labs Inc. can help everyone better track their activity levels.
CardioTrainer is a free application for Android smartphones that let’s you track and record all of your fitness activity. With it, you are able to track statistics for walking, treadmill, running, biking, stationary biking, weight lifting, yoga, swimming and many other types of exercises.
My favorite feature though is the ability to track -in real-time- my path, distance, pace and calories burned using my smartphone’s GPS. With it, I can see my exact route on a Google map and compare it to my previous day’s workout. And if I’m really feeling good about my workout, I can share it with my friends and family on Facebook.
Also included in the app are some really useful features like the calorie tracker, weight loss trainer, a Move Your Bot game and the ability to compare your statistics with other people around the world
who use the app. There’s also a premium version for a one-time cost of $2.99 that allows you to race against your previous workout and gives you live visual and audio feedback at the end of your session. To make sure you like it, they allow you to try it free for seven days.
I’m very happy with this app. It motivates me to improve upon my previous workout and the GPS statistics are extremely useful. The customizations allow me to accurately track my workout and it’s nice
to have that information to track my progress. I believe in supporting developers who write good apps, so I plan on purchasing the premium version once my trial is up. Remember even the smallest amount of
exercise is better than nothing, so get up, download this app from the App Market and get moving.
