From the DSN Newswire (City of Dallas)
The City of Dallas Sanitation Services department resumed its regular monthly brush/bulk garbage collection schedule on Thursday, April 22. The city will collect Week 4 areas starting on Monday, April 26. Residents who live in Week 4 areas can start placing their items out for collection on Thursday, April 22.
Dallas sanitation assistant director for collections Ron Smith says it’s been a long two and half months, but the city is finally getting back on track. Delays in collection resulted from pickup of the record 70,000 tons of debris from February’s snowstorm and the subsequent brush and bulk collection not related to the storm.
“The excessive tree damage caused in February had a snowball effect on our brush and bulk collection operations,” Smith said. “There was twice the volume of limbs as we originally estimated, and every corner of the city was affected. Our crews simply couldn’t get everywhere all at once.” Dallas hired contract crews and worked 12-hour days, seven days a week—including Easter Sunday–to get back on schedule.
City and contract crews will be finishing their “second pass” through Week 2 and Week 3 areas by Thursday to get back onto the regular brush/bulk collection next week.
Brush and bulk garbage is picked up once a month by the City on a weekly schedule, which is dependent upon the resident’s address. Dallas’ regular brush/bulk garbage schedule includes pick ups every week except during the fifth week of months where there are five Mondays, such as the week of May 31—June 4. To find out their collection weeks, residents can input their address at http://maps.dallascityhall.com or call 311.
Dallas residents may also dispose of bulk and brush items themselves at garbage transfer stations or McCommas Bluff Landfill (5100 Youngblood Road). Residents must show a drivers license with a Dallas address or a Dallas utility bill and photo ID. Materials can be hauled in cars, trucks, or trailers up to 15 ft or less.
Dallas Sanitation Services collects and disposes of garbage, recycling and brush/bulk materials for 258,000 residential customers in the City of Dallas.
