Southern Bible Institute graduates first Master’s candidates

Southern Bible Institute will celebrate its 83rd anniversary with a gala banquet Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel which is located at 2201 Stemmons Freeway in Dallas, Texas 75207.  The program begins at 7:00 p.m.

Bryan Carter, Senior Pastor at Concord Missionary Baptist Church will deliver the keynote address for the Gala. He will speak on the theme, “The Presence of One.” Stellar Award Winner Angella Christie will provide entertainment for the evening with her unique gospel saxophone sound.

Southern Bible Institute will honor three of its’ alumni who are in ministry as well as business owners and have given back to SBI, during the gala. Rev. Michael G. Braxton Senior Pastor of Bethel Community Baptist Church in Denison, Texas  is the owner of Braxton’s Barber Shop in Denison. Pastor Braxton graduated from SBI in May 1996. He is the Zone 4 leader of the Galilee Griggs Memorial District Association.  Rev. Odis A. Darnell is a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Fort Worth and teaches at Community Baptist Church as well as Salem Missionary Baptist church. He graduated from SBI in May 2006. He owns the Odis Darnell Lawn Care Service in Dallas.

Rev. Fred Conwright, Senior Pastor of Greater Mount Hebron Church in Dallas, is also being honored. When Pastor Conwright graduated from SBI in 1988, he had been in business for seven years and had no intention of being a pastor. He is co-owner of Two Podners restaurants and convenience stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. ”I ran from the ministry for a long time,” said Rev. Conwright. ”Ironically everything I learned in business prepared me for a leadership role in the church. Southern Bible Institute prepared me for my gift, to be a pastor.”

Rev. E. L. Burrell will be honored posthumously. He graduated from Southern Bible Institute in 1968 and served on the Southern Bible Institute Board of Directors for over 20 years.

On Sunday May 2, 2010, more than 120 students will graduate from Southern Bible Institute.  The ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 301 W. Sanford Street in Arlington, Texas, 76011. Paige Patterson, President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will address the graduating class.  Southern Bible Institute has graduated thousands of community focused spiritual leaders during its 83 year history.
