Clay Jenkins - Democratic Candidate of County Judge

Clay Jenkins - Democratic Candidate of County Judge

Now that the primary season is over and Clay Jenkins has prevailed over this Democratic counterparts, I can say that I’ve had my eye on the Dallas County Judge race for months. Republican Wade Emmert has been pretty quiet up until now since he didn’t have a Republican challenger in the primary, but both campaigns will make a made dash between now and November.

I anticipate a pretty clean, issues based race.  But I didn’t like hearing Jenkins say “The choice in November will be between a positive, inclusive vision of economic growth for our county or a backward slide into partisan division and bickering,” on KERA as I drove into the Southside on Lamar this morning (Clay also has his campaign headquarters here).  That quote was also part of Gromer Jeffers’ Dallas Morning News article on the Democratic Primary this morning.

I think that particular comment is troubling for a couple of reasons.  First because Emmert has shown himself willing to work with just about anyone in his time on the City Council in Cedar Hill and his work with the Best Southwest Partnership.  Accusing an opponent of “partisan division and bickering” is a political crutch phrase that’s pretty much “Rule #1″ in a standard campaign. It also means that Jenkins is the first to politicize the race, doing so in it’s inaugural minutes.

Secondly, Emmert’s been smack dab in the middle of Cedar Hill’s economic boom over the past decade or so.  Southern Dallas Economic Development = Cedar Hill in many regards.  I’m not sure how much Wade had to do with it, but at least I can say he was there. Emmert will get the type of Democratic support in Cedar Hill that Bill White will get from Republicans in Houston.

All and all I think Dallas County voters have a couple of good candidates to choose from in November, and I look forward to hearing why I (as a Dallas County voter) should cast my vote for one of them.  We look to bring DSN readers as much info as possible regarding this contest.

As a Democrat, this is hard for me to say, but I agree that I like Wade. He is not nearly a bickering partisan as Clay Jenkins is. Wade has helped build something and done what we expect out of an elected official: made life better, led his life the right way, and always had an open mind. For that reason, this Dallas Democrat is voting for Wade.
