On Saturday night, Omicron Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha held their 24th Image Award Celebration Benefit and Concert Saturday night at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.  The event benefits the Omicron Mu Omega Foundation which is the chapter’s community service arm.

Ms. Patricia Webb, President of the Omicron Mu Omega Foundation moved the packed house through a packed program.  And chapter president Keesha Williams thanked those in attendance for their support.  The group was able to build on last year’s successful luncheon which featured actor/author Hill Harper.

DSC04730This year’s Image Award recipient was Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins.  He was presented by State Senator Royce West who served as Honorary Co-Chair of the event along with his wife Carol.  After giving the crowd a chuckle by covering a few lines of a Boyz II Men tune, Senator West praised Watkins for tenure as Dallas County D.A.

DSC04712The Townview High School Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Dean Hill provided music throughout the evening, including a toe tapping rendition of Blue Bassa.  The ensemble is preparing for their performance at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters on April 17th with Grammy Award winning artist Roy Hargrove.

The evening was capped of by a performance by the most successful R&B group of all time, Boyz II Men.  The group jumped their show off with one of their first hits Motowphilly which brought the crowd to their feet.

After almost 20 years of making hits, the multi-platinum selling artists have comprised quite a catalogue, and performed some of their popular ballads including On Bended Knee and Please Don’t Go,

Boyz II Men also performed songs from their 2007 album “Mowtown – A Journey Through Hitsville USA.” To the delight of the sorors, the group put their own spin on Just My Imagination performed originally by Temptations, and Smokey Robinson’s The Tracks of My Tears.  Many ladies rushed the stage and left with a souvenir in the form of a pink rose courtesy of Boys II Men.  Kudos to Ms. Williams and Ms. Webb for a truly exceptional affair.
