The Central Dallas Ministries’ Education Department is looking for dedicated and committed individuals, ages 17 and up, who wish to be a part of educational summer programs for elementary, middle, and high school students that engage youth in learning that is engaging and fun!
There are several positions available in our summer program activities. See below for each of the job descriptions. Please pass along to students, friends, and family.

Summer 2010 Member Application
After School Academy Teacher
30-35 hours/week (June 3-Aug. 6)–Americorps
Position to be filled 5.17.10
Hours: 9:00-3:30, Monday-Friday
The After School Academy Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing classes for elementary children (K-5th) on environmental issues and helping students gain an understanding of being “green”.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Utilize project-based learning approaches to teach children (training provided)
- Research and be prepared to engage children in learning about environmental/”green” issues
- Supervise children on weekly field trips
- Work with kids individually on social skills lessons and/or individual projects
- Document kids’ projects and activities
- Utilize technology in meaningful ways with the children
- Listen to and learn from children
Librarian
30-35 hours/week (June 3-Aug. 13)–Americorps
Position to be filled 5.17.10
Hours: 9:00-3:30 Monday-Friday OR 2:30-7:30 Monday-Friday and 11:00-4:00 Saturday
The Librarian will focus efforts on recruiting patrons, conducting reading times, book clubs, and other reading-based activities for elementary, middle, and high school students.
- Work with kids individually and as a group on social skills lessons.
- Facilitate reading classes
- Keep records of and collect money from book sales
- Create special events to draw in community members
- Complete data entry weekly
Teen U and Mid-Teen U Facilitator
30-35 hours/week (June 3-Aug. 13)–Americorps
Position to be filled 5.17.10
Hours: 11:00-5:00 Monday-Saturday (hours may vary depending on activities)
The Teen U Coordinator is responsible for engaging 9th-12th graders (Mid-Teen U—5th-8th grade boys) in service projects, technology, book clubs, and other educational and fun activities for teens.
- Work with teens individually and as a group on social skills lessons.
- Get ideas from teenagers about social awareness projects and help them implement their ideas
- Plan and engage teens in service projects
- Assist teens in documenting their projects and activities using different technologies
- Work with Librarian to engage students in book clubs and other reading activities
- Engage students in learning about environmental and “green” issues
Mobile Feeding Site Activity Program Facilitator
40 hours/week (June 3-Aug. 13)–VISTA
Position to be filled 5.17.10
Hours: 9:00-5:00 Monday-Friday
The Activity Program Facilitator is responsible for implementing an integrated academic and fitness curriculum for groups of 10-90 kids of all ages at three different sites per day.
- Work with small and large groups of youth
- Implement social skills lessons
- Conduct pre- and post-surveys and assessments
- Facilitate academic/fitness curriculum
- Supervise and build relationships with children
- Ensure curriculum is engaging
