From the Dallas South News Wire (Office of the Mayor)
Today, Bishop Larry McGriff, the senior pastor of the Church of the Living God died at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. His family says the prominent pastor suffered an aneurysm. Mayor Leppert issued the following statement:
“I am stunned and deeply saddened today to learn of the passing of Bishop Larry McGriff, the senior pastor of the Church of the Living God in east Oak Cliff. McGriff was a dear friend to me and Laura as well as a great spiritual shepherd to his congregation.
“Bishop McGriff was also an important fighter for Southern Dallas. He was a valued partner in battling crime, eliminating drug houses and crime ridden hotels, and he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of everyone in Dallas. “Bishop McGriff worked hard to build bridges in this city and find common ground, understanding that we can achieve more in Dallas by working together.
It was just two months ago that Laura and I shared in the joy of his wedding to Dr. Karen Hollie, the Senior Pastor of Lifeway Church in Red Bird. It was a wonderful interfaith celebration that reflected their belief that God’s love knows no barriers. “Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Karen, the rest of Bishop McGriff’s family, and his congregation.”
