UPDATE: BISHOP LARRY MCGRIFF, SENIOR PASTOR OF CHURCH OF THE LIVING GOD PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING AROUND 11 AM. HE AND HIS WIFE DR. KAREN HOLLIE WERE MARRIED JUST THIS PAST DECEMBER. DALLAS SOUTH NEWS WILL HAVE MORE ON THE LIFE AND WORK OF BISHOP MCGRIFF IN THE FOLLOWING DAYS. BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL STORY THAT RAN THIS MORNING.

Larry D. McGriffThis morning I received a text from a Dallas South News reader that alerted me to KHVN’s report that Bishop Larry McGriff had suffered an aneurysm.  I spoke with Mr. Robert Ashley soon after who said Bishop McGriff was taken to the hospital around 2 a.m. this morning.  Multiple sources have said they were on their way to the hospital to be with Bishop McGriff who is on life support.  His prognosis does not look good at this point.

We were just celebrating Bishop McGriff’s marriage to Dr. Karen Hollie in an interfaith wedding ceremony in late December of last year.

Bishop McGriff is a noted advocate in Southern Dallas who has tackled issues relating to drug houses, hot sheet motels, and violence as well as economic development.  He is Sr. Pastor of Church of the Living God and his wife Dr. Hollie is Sr. Pastor of Lifeway Church.

Our prayers are with Bishop McGriff, his wife, his congregation and the many people he has touched who are obviously concerned at this hour.

Having witnessed such a beautiful display of love in December, at the wedding of Bishop McGriff and his wife Dr. Hollie, I am saddened by the news on this morning. My prayers are with him, his wife and their family as well as church family.

I am sadden to hear the news of our friend Bishop McGriff, he to me is a brother of brothers, pastor of pastors and friend to all. He is God’s son. We will miss him dearly as there are few like Bishop McGriff with the kind heart that he has. He always opened the doors of his church to our small congregation for weddings, prayer breakfast and baptisms. Our prayers are with the Body of Christ during this difficult time.

This very sad news. I think the photo of Bishop McGriff with Rev. Jackson is a fitting tribute to the fact that he was fighting for truth and justice literally to the very end. We will continue to pray for his wife, church, and entire family.

Bishop McGriff was an inspiring man who did everything he could to
be of service to his people. He played a large part in making the Memnosyne Foundation Interfaith Service Network what it is today and his life was spent
building bridges between diverse communities and empowering the
disadvanteged within his own. While his loss can never be
replaced, let us all honor him by continuing to serve the Joppa
community and not letting the people be forgotten. May his memory
inspire others to care about making the kind of difference he
    sought to make.

We at The Memnosyne Foundation will still be moving forward in our annual support for Walking to Destiny, an interfaith vision Bishop McGriff helped to develop and realize. We will also be naming our Joppa Women’s Entrepreneur Training program after him as he was the community’s greatest advocate!

My thoughts are also with Karen at this time. She will need all
the support everyone in Dallas can give her to keep momentum going towards helping their community. That way his spirit will continue to
    inspire us all!
