From the Dallas South News Wire (Methodist Health System)
“Arriving in Port au Prince, the devastation was unimaginable. Houses, government buildings, hospitals, hotels — everything is in ruins. Any building still standing is evacuated in fear of further damage that the daily tremors will cause. Because of the destruction, people are forced to live in the streets. Sheets, tarps, and tents are a much needed item for protection from the scorching sun.”
These were the words of Methodist Charlton ED nurse Christina Baez, RN, upon her arrival in Haiti to help the people of this devastated country. Christina’s parents work with Christian Dominican Medical Mission (CDMM), and she recently joined CDMM and several other volunteers on a trip to Haiti to assist the Haitian people with their health care needs and bring much-needed supplies. Christina says it was a rewarding experience.
“The gratitude for what little we could do for them was evident through their smiles, even with the long wait,” she says, adding, “My heart cries out for the Haitian people. My prayer is that they will receive the help they need, not simply physical needs, but that their spiritual needs will be met as well.”
