Dr. Fran Harris, co-founder of the Black Millionaires Summit, will moderate the panel, “Fair or Foul: How the Media Portrays the Black Athlete,” at 6 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2010 at Harwood 609 on 609 Harwood St. in Downtown Dallas.
The panel is part of a sports forum to be hosted by the Dallas-Fort Worth Association of Black Journalists. The forum will be held during the week leading up to the NBA’s All-Star Weekend, Feb. 11-14, 2010.
Harris is a life and business coach with broad experience across industries. She led the University of Texas at Austin women’s basketball team to their first NCAA championship, and was a member of the Houston Comets’ first WNBA Championship team. She also has worked with FOX Sports and ESPN. In addition, she is co-founder of the Black Millionaires Summit, where millionaire entrepreneurs share with black entrepreneurs how to create financial freedom.
The panel will feature sports journalists, including KKDA’s Chris Arnold, Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Senior Writer Clarence Hill, 411 Sports & Entertainment Publisher Cedric Lyons, Dallas Weekly’s LaToya Hardaway, The Home Team DFW’s Channing Curtis, and businessman and freelance journalist Thom Bailey. The panel also will feature perspectives from Dr. Murray Fortner, chair of the sociology/psychology department at Tarrant County College.
From Tiger Woods’ infidelities off the course to Serena Williams’ tiff during a match to Gilbert Arenas’ bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room there is plenty to chatter about. The panel also will discuss how social media has affected the game.
