From the Dallas South News Wire (Resource Center of Dalas)
With rises in the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases in the D/FW metropolitan area, namely syphilis, Resource Center of Dallas is mobilizing the community to increase awareness of the real impacts of STDs.
The D/FW Syphilis Elimination Coalition/Stomp Out Syphilis Campaign (SOS)—a coalition of community-based organizations and community members focused on syphilis, HIV/AIDS and STD awareness—has become the largest collaborative effort between community members, community-based organizations and state and local health departments in the State of Texas.
To encourage testing and provide education on a community level, SOS is throwing the “Block Party in the OC—celebrating National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day”. The event will take place at Deer Path Park, 1716 E. Kiest Blvd., Dallas, TX 75216 on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Dallas County Health and Human Services will be on site to provide free, confidential syphilis and HIV testing.
