DALLAS, TX—In November 2009, the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs presented a community conversation with Kennedy Center President Michael Kaiser at the Latino Cultural Center.  At a time when many nonprofits are in crisis, the resounding theme was to concentrate on interesting programs.  TeCo Theatrical Productions intends to do just that.

A diverse group of professional men of all ages have agreed to come together to raise money for TeCo’s arts education programs.  The Bachelor Auction Fundraiser will take place at the Bishop Arts Theater Center on January 23, 2010.  WFAA’s Brett Shipp will host the event.

Each year, TeCo impacts nearly 10,000 kids via year round student outreach programs and children performances in the Dallas & Ft. Worth area.  The artistic philosophy is to engage students in self-development programs that apply critical thinking skills, develop decision making processes, and build vocabulary.  “Research has shown that children consistently involved in the arts achieve better academically than their non-involved peers,” commented Executive Artistic Director, Teresa Coleman Wash.

The Bachelor Auction will benefit the theatre’s T-An-T (Teenagers and Theatre) Apprenticeship Program, a partnership with the Dallas County Juvenile Department and the Volunteer Center truancy program that provides an intense four month workshop which culminates with a Shakespearean production where student participants run the entire show.  In April 2010, apprenticeship students will present Hamlet.
