Last week Harry Stone Montessori kicked off Fuel Up and Play 60, an initiative of the National Dairy Council and National Football League. Fuel Up to Play 60 aims to “empower youth to take action in their school and for their own health.”
Stone is one of three DISD schools (including Dealey and Travis) that are taking part in this nationwide program. Schools from around the country will track their healthy habits and activities that could net their campus new playground and fitness equipment. One school will win the national grand prize that includes a Fuel Up to Play 60 themed healthy school makeover.
Coach Erica Simon is the program advisor and will help direct the initiative over a 4-week period that ends March 15th. After the assembly students were dismissed to the gym where they played badminton and basketball, as well as Wii games, obstacle courses and bounce houses.
