Last Friday, I had the opportunity to participate in KLIF 570′s “Black in DFW” roundtable on the Jeff Bolton Show. I have to give Jeff props for having this type of discussion on conservative talk, devoting the better part of two hours of his program to the similarities and differences between segments of the American population and his listening audience.
Al (Brooks) in Cedar Hill, David (Harris) in Dallas, and Hakim (Williams) in Frisco three guys who listen to KLIF and often call in to the Jeff Bolton Show. They are not in the KLIF demo, but are the kind of guys that like to listen to conservative talk to see what the conversation is like and call to offer an alternate opinion.
On Monday, I heard some of the feedback that Jeff received about the show and it was overwhelmingly positive. If anything the criticism was that the discussion wasn’t broad enough and didn’t encompass enough issues. We had plans to touch many topics that we didn’t make it to, like the impact of slavery and the Dallas City Hall Corruption trial. Much of that was dictated by the clock and the run sheet that the guys put together for the show. And who knew that we would find out President Obama will receive the Nobel Prize right before the show kicked off.
But there were some very rich discussions that took during the breaks. I wish that I would have had my digital recorder going to capture a portion of it, especially on the topic of black leadership. Jeff lamented the fact that we always see Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton speaking for black folks, but I had to remind him that the producers calling to invite them on the air are probably not black.
Take a moment to listen to some of the segments from Friday’s show below. Al, David, and Hakim did a great job and I’m honored to have shared the airwaves with them. Also have to give a shout to my main man Clint Granbury for including me on the show as well as Programming Director Steve Nicholl and The Big Boss Dan Bennett. And thanks to Donna Haupt for keeping everything running smoothly on the technical side.
