Things could really get interesting in the three contested DISD School Board races this November.  Dr. Juanita Wallace, a retired school administrator with 33 years of education experience under her belt ,is contesting Ron Price’s District  9 Trustee seat.

See Dr. Juanita Wallace’s Campaign website.
Wallace filed her papers to seek a position on the board last week, making her campaign (with the slogan “District 9: It’s Time”) official.  “It’s time for a change.  It’s time for the District to do what’s right for all our children in Dallas,” Wallace says on her website.  She held a gathering of supporters at Southside on Lamar Sunday evening.

Dr. Wallace currently serves as president of the NAACP Dallas Branch, as well as the Political Congress of African-American women.  She could well give the long serving Price a run for his money (no pun intended). The DISD Board as a whole is quite unpopular, but when it comes election time voters often stick with incumbents in individual races.

A special elections will take place on November 3rd in order to fix a mess made by the school board last November when they voted to extend their terms from three years to four. The board decided to skip the three elections that should have been held in March before the Texas Secretary of State’s office offered and opinion on the matter.

Wallace’s opponent recently launched an unsuccessful campaign to name new DISD schools after President Barack Obama and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor
