City of Dallas Furlough Days September 4 & 7: See who’s closed and open

The last time the City of Dallas had a furlough day for city employees there was a lot of confusion among residents.  The city is trying to do a better job of getting the word out this time.  Here’s a list of Dallas that will be closed next Friday September 4th and Labor Day.

Friday 4th and Monday 7th

Furlough Day Closure Information
As one of many initiatives implemented to address budget challenges, the City of Dallas is implementing a mandatory furlough program. The furlough program is in response to significant reductions in the City’s revenue as a result of the nation’s economic downturn.  To maximize the energy and personnel cost savings, the City has scheduled furlough days to coincide with holiday weekends.

City Hall – All City offices are closed including Vital Statistics (birth certificates).  In addition, the Department of Public Safety driver’s license office and the City Credit Union are also closed.

Oak Cliff Municipal Center – All offices are closed.

Court and Detention Services – Administrative offices at 106 S. Harwood and 2014 Main will be closed.  Lew Sterrett Justice Center Lobby at 111 W. Commerce will be open for customer service for Class C misdemeanor citations. The facility will be open for citation processing from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week including holidays. Other payment options include online. Mail payments are also accepted and postmark dates are honored.

Municipal Court Building – The Municipal Court Building and all offices therein are closed.

Aviation – Love Field/Dallas Executive Airport
No impact on operations at Love Field or Dallas Executive Airports

Parking Enforcement – Parking Enforcement officers will be on duty and all parking meters are operational.

3-1-1 Customer Service Helpline – Customer Service Representatives will be available to take service-related urgent calls such as water main breaks, downed trees/limbs, signal lights out/down, animal control, etc.  Water Customer Service will be closed.  Routine service requests may be input via the web.

Sanitation – Garbage & recycling pick-up will be on a regular schedule.  No service impact.  The McCommas Bluff Landfill and all Transfer Stations will be operating regular hours.

Library – Closed Friday and Monday – libraries will be open Saturday and libraries (11) which have Sunday hours will be open their regular Sunday hours

Dallas Police Department – Will operate on normal schedule.  Administrative offices will be closed.

Dallas Fire-Rescue – All fire stations are staffed and operational. The Fire Department offices located at 1515 Baylor Street will also be closed to the public.  Fire reports and emergency medical service reports will not be available.

Farmers Market – Open for business

By this date, the City of Dallas Pools have already closed for the 2009 season

Environmental & Health Services

West Dallas Multipurpose Center
All offices are closed. Dallas County Older Adults Program will meet at another site. For information call 214-819-1860

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center
All offices will be closed on Friday, September 4, 2009 and Monday, September 7, 2009 except the following buildings/service providers:  Building A – Texas Workforce Center, American Cancer Society, Metro-Care Services, and The Family Place.  Building B – The Family Clinic.  These service providers will be open for business as usual on Friday, September 4, 2009.

Women, Infants and Children
All WIC Clinics will be closed Friday, September 4, 2009 and Monday, September 7, 2009.  The WIC Clinics will reopen at regularly scheduled times on Tuesday, September 8th.  If you need to make or change an appointment, please call (214) 670-7200.

Public Health Clinics
City of Dallas Health Clinics will be closed Friday, September 4, 2009 and Monday, September 7, 2009. The Clinics will reopen on Tuesday, September 8th.

Food Protection and Education Division
Office Located at – 7901 Goforth Road will be closed Friday, September 4, 2009 and Monday, September 7, 2009. The office will reopen on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 8:00a.m.
